Plantar Fasciitis
Symptoms & Conditions

Plantar Fasciitis is the inflammation of the fascia, which is a thick connective tissue attached at the front of the heel running along the arch of the foot and branching out to attach behind the ball of the foot. Inflammation occurs when the fascia stretches with each step to absorb the shock; therefore, when there is over use of the fascia due to impact caused by increased activity during the day such as, sports, weight gain, and walking on hard flooring, the fascia strains and becomes inflamed. Symptoms include:

  • Dull pain throughout the day in the arch of the foot and/or at the bottom of the heel
  • Increased pain in the arch or heel area during higher levels of activity
  • Sharp heel pain at first step in the morning or after a resting period
  • Severe, constant pain throughout the day

Solution? Support the arch with an orthotic device to decrease the strain and tension on the fascia. Orthoses: Custom made insole fabricated to contour and support the arch of the foot. The insole allows the weight of the body to be distributed evenly along the foot, decreasing any point pressures. By supporting the long arch of the foot, the strain on the fascia is decreased, helping the micro tears to regenerate and eliminate the inflammation and pain.
